Rev Fr. Louis Guittat was the man responsible for the building of the Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary church in Kelantan. This was back in 1950 and it has been in existence ever since. Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary church would then get a new building some 15 years later when Fr Jean Tavennec took over and there would be several other priests after that.
Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary plays an important role as one of the few Catholic churches around the northern and eastern region of Peninsular Malaysia. In fact, when Fr Surman was around, he would visit the places of Pasir Mas, Tumpat and Kuala Krai for mass once a month as well as an outreach programme in Pulau Bidong for Vietnamese refugees. Besides that, a young French Fr Michel de Gigord played a big role for the youth movement here including organizing the ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ musical in 1976 which was a remarkable breakthrough for the state.
When Fr Anthony Chong was parish between 1990 and 1999, the church became fully air-conditioned while there were expansions and renovations to the church building. Today, Our Lady of Fatima of the Holy Rosary continues to administer to the people with programmes and events for members from all walks of life. This include having picnics and fellowship programmes at waterfalls and nearby attractions. Camps were held to foster better relationship and fellowship among the church members which has since grown to a healthy number presently.
In 2010, the church celebrated its 60th anniversary with all kinds of events. To date, the church building now looks more modern with several rounds of renovations and makeovers. Movements like the FMM Sisters are very important to the church as they have been very involved since the beginning and continues to support the members and the congregation in their own way. Besides that, the KCYS is the youth movement ministry which is involved in catering for the younger generation of believers, providing the platform for sharing and fellowship as well as support services like prayer for each other.
